1971 911T motor education please
I am admittedly new to Porsche and could You your options on a 1971 911T motor
A friend has this motor That he will sell to me for $3500. It’s complete with zenith carbs and upgraded hydraulic tensioner. The motor did have moisture in it from sitting. it didn't spin freely when he got it so he carefully dissasmented to motor. Gave it a good cleaning. Says it will need new pistons and cylinders (assuming that's what it wouldn't spin over) and the head work as the moisture got the the valve seats. But everything in the case looks good. I understand what the price will be for a rebuild. But my question is, would this still be a good purchase at $3500

Buy it. The fact that it is complete with carbs, wiring, ignition, and exhaust is a big plus. Yea, it is a core, but complete.
See if you can get the CDI to go along with it.

The engine tins are missing in the photo... those will cost you a small fortune from the recyclers. When you say that he dismantled it... did he split the case? "Moisture" will kill the oil pump, and potentially cause the crank to have problems. The heads can always be rebuilt and are worth some cash. The chain boxes, and many other parts are magnesium. If everything is really apart you can look and see how bad the magnesium maggots have taken over. Otherwise plan on having to replace some pricey parts even if you get them secondhand.

Turbo valve covers,hydraulic tentioners,bosch distributor someone have given it some love @ some stage,problem is its been outside stored and that can be an issue but @ that price I would buy it.
