Cam timing slipped?
I am at my 500mile valve adjust/headstead re-torque.
Before doing so I noticed that at about 5700RPM I have a big drop in power, not quite like hitting the rev limiter but close. So I was guessing that my Cam Timing had slipped. When I checked it once the valve covers were off I found that the right bank cam had moved my #4 intake almost .1mm but was still in spec, but the left side had moved #1 nearly .3mm and was way off. I'm assuming the nut came loose but haven't pulled off the coverplate yet. Anyone else seen this happen? Can I locktite those cam nuts down to prevent it from happening again? |

Did you turn the engine over a couple of times and recheck the timeing before buttoning it up? The slop in the chain setup can cause this problem, it didn't really change, it wasn't right to begin with. Thats most likely.

Plus, the big gear can't move unless the pin falls out...

I think the problem may have been that I had the chains clamped too tight. During assembly used ViceGrips on the left tensioner arm and a bar clamp on the right. I set them, rotated the crank several times and checked them. Then when I installed the tensioners and released the clamps, I did notice a slight change in measurements. I assumed this was because the carrera tensioners were not pressurized as they would be when running.
I'm using Carrera tensioners, can I just let them provide the tension when setting the cams? Or should I just apply a slight amount of pressure with the clamps?
