The simple answer is yes you can. However the question becomes a smog inspection concern. I bought my car in Feb. of this year, so I have a couple of years to figure out what I am going to do. I'm just south of you in Rancho Santa Margarita. At the current moment I have my pump and belt in place but my hoses are not connected. In order to comply I just have to hook up my hoses and re-attach my stock cat/muffler. That' s the current plan. I've heard of people passing without the airpump and leaned out just to pass(our older cars get more and more leeway on tailpipe emmisions) and since dyno testing is generally gentle acceleration(no boost) the lean out doesn't factor in for testing. Of course you need to richen up after the testing. I don't know how you would pass the visual inspection(I'm hoping to find someone lenient). Michael
