I have had my Rennshift installed for a few years now and it operates just like yours.
When engaged in 1st or 2nd it looks to settle back to the middle somewhat. Not completely but it can be pushed left. When in 3rd or 4th it's in the middle but slightly forward or aft, respectively.
I think it's normal. Mine works great.
