Swapping a bad motor with the same is one thing.
Going to an 8 from a 6 he may need more than just the motor.
Tranny, ECU, exhaust, etc...
Then there will be the nickel and dime fiddly bits.
I'd pull the 6 and drop in an old school carbuerated unmanaged motor.
