My theory on those DIY jobs is this;
You save heaps on labour, apart from the satisfaction of the DIY job. So I don't hesitate to buy what I need in special tools. And I am much better equipped for the next job. And I rationalise the tools actually cost me nothing - since I now have the tools and am still well on the right side of the ledger. Consequently I have a well equipped shop now. Some special tools I will make, but the yoke I would (and did) buy. If I am doing a job for a mate and he buys the tools, even better. We both win.
