On my '75 Targa, the factory hard-top fits in the frunk (with the spare tire intact). Of course, I've got manual brakes (no booster) and the reservoir is located on the driver's side inner fender, between the fuse box and the hood hinge. Fluid is fed by way of hoses/tubes to the master cylinder.
Perhaps this same mounting scheme may be applicable to new Targa's: Leave the booster/master cylinder in place, relocate the reservoir to the side, run hoses from the reservoir to the master cylinder.
