I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I spend probably a day, maybe 2 trying to hammer that pin out while laying under my car. The issue I ran into is that you'd work the pin so far out, then due to the curve of the gearbox for the diff, your punch would be at an awkward angle which would result in your punch just hitting the walls of the hole in the shaft. So I just progressively used shorter and shorter punches until I ran around the house looking for hardened nails to be used as punches.
