From the Red book;

Targa68 is right, something Smells in Stuttgart.

Is there a typographical error in the range of VINs listed? Should the range of VINs of the 1968 911L Be between

11855001 through 11855134 rather than 11855001 through 11865134?

Is the 4th digit in error? Even then the number of units produced (134) does not match Targa68's resource that states 307 units were produced.

The 1968 911L Targa listed above the red arrow has an indicated production version 6 with 307 units produced. So what was the difference between production version "5" and "6"? I assume the production version 6 refers to non US vehicles, and 5 refers to US vehicles.

And if you look close there is an error in the 1968L Coupe. The starting VINs had 8 digits but by production end they had 9.

. . . and the 911S started with 7 VIN digits and ended it's run with 8 digits.

That's some strange sauerbraten for you.
