I know this is an old thread, but I too have a myster knob in the same location at the photo. I have a 1972 911T that is, what I believe to be, factory. No AC and defiantly not hidden turbo (LOL). After trying the warp drive, ejector seat, and something to do with the time-space-continuum options listed above, I have narrowed it down to the balance adjustment for the door speakers on the factory radio.
I was told that the radio in my car is the factory Blaupunk (sp?) radio with door speakers. It turns out to be a balance adjustment for left and right door speakers. I don't know how you could discern a difference in sound quality when driving at 3000 rpm, windows down (no AC) and road noise, but alas you can adjust for your listening pleasure.
Now I must go look for the hidden turbo... I'm sure it's here somewhere...
