OK, so I went to Bosch's web page to get updated. When I search for plugs to use in a 911 they offer NOTHING for a '72 to '89.

My engine was built by Kremer in Germany, they were the ones who recommended the silver plugs, although they said that you could cheap out on the copper ones if you really wanted to.
These were also the guys who replaced every single nut and bolt on the engine, no matter how trivial and when I challenged them on the cost of doing that, their response was " we build things to a particular standard, if you wanted less than that you should have had someone else build your engine"
They also broke the engine in for me at the Nuremburgring and with all that, if they said silvers were the way to go, good enough for me.
The only sadness is that replacing those plugs every three years and about 12000 km felt wasteful as they looked perfect every time.
