20 pin port.
Where is it? I just received my software for my e46 325i and I can't find the port. I says it is either by the left shock tower, the right shock tower, or the intake manifold. Yeah right! That means it could be anywhere.

Are you referring to the diagnostic port on the car?

Yes, they sent me a Conforti-like programmer. But the port they are talking about is rectangular and inside the car now. Not round and in the engine bay. They don't have a programmer that fits 2001 and up e46 yet.

Im thinking that you have to plug it in directly to the ECU. This should be directly above the glove box.

Just found out that there is only one port that you can connect to. It is used for diagnosing problems (reading OBD-II codes), setting options, resetting your service lights or guage. It is also where you attach to reprogram the ECU.
For a 2001 and up e46, the port is located below the steering wheel, near the hood release. It is under a little plastic lid labeled OBD-II. The dealer has a remote device he can attach to your port and reprogram your car from across the room. Yes, it is wireless, they sit at a keyboard and read your data and make any changes. The Shark Injector also attaches to this port. But they don't have one that fits the new design of this port. |

I've seen the dealer one...
too bad someone doens't make a kit for use with a laptop. Things like setting up the factory alarm, etc would be nice to be able to do yourself. Good info tho! Chuck
