Aluminum pedal mystery
You guys probably know the answer to this one. Again, before I found out about this forum, last November, I ordered aluminum pedals from a BMW dealer (35-00-0-006-949, manual aluminum pedals for a E46 sedan).
Two months went by, and they said they were "backordered until further notice, with no date guidance available." What the heck it that? Another month or two went by and they asked me if I wanted to cancel the standing order, and I did. I've heard rumors that the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) prohibited BMW from importing the aluminum pedals any longer because there had been some incidents with them (e.g., some idiot didn't put them on right and they came off while he was driving). Is that the case? Are OEM aluminum pedals ever going to be available again? I already have the dead pedal, so an aftermarket set ain't gonna match too well... ![]() Thx. John. |
