BMW Roundel Wish me luck, brake job commences tomorrow

My box from Pelican arrived last night, and there's enough to do one end of the car (other pads are arriving Monday) so here's to hoping that:

Me + three days + forums.pelicanparts.com = functional car by Monday.

This is probably my most substantial car work ever, surpassing K&N filter installation, or maybe my cd player in my gone, but not forgotten, Cavalier wagon. RIP, little wagon, RIP.

So heads ups, if you see any frantic posts this weekend, you know what it's about.

I suppose this is Round #1 of: Can I do enough repair/maintenance work to be able to afford a Porsche?

Ok, brakes are relatively easy to do.

If you send me your email address, i can send you an article on how to do it. The article is for the E36, however the basics and the mechanical aspects are nearly the same.

Ack, one bolt stands between me and a complete right front

This weekend has been lousy for actually working on brakes, but thanks to Jared's article it's going well....except for the rotor retention screw. I've got my PB Blaster sprayed on there, so I'm hoping it will get loose. It's really tight. Should I try a breaker bar?

If I can get that figured out, I think I should be able to whack the left side out in short order, because it's not quite as hard as I imagined...except for these retention bolts...which I really don't want to strip....

And......

it's stripped. Damn you, rotor retaining bolt!

I suppose a set of left-handed drill bits is in order?

Frustrated,
Jens

Good news is one of my colleagues at work has one of those "hit it, it will turn" (impact driver?) devices, and will bring it in tomorrow. I'll nurse my worn brakes in the meantime.

After driving my wife's Neon all weekend, it's really, really nice to be behind the wheel of the BMW.

Use some heat on the bolt before you hit it with the impact driver.
