sunroof warranty

The sunroof on my wife's 2000 323 is broken. I was able to get it closed. Should this be covered by the BMW certified car warranty. The car has 70,000 mi. TIA Roy

Unfortunately, it was covered under the 50k warranty but I'm almost positive it is not covered under BMW CPO. This is a VERY common problem and should be recalled IMHO.

I had mine fixed twice the second time was after 50k and even though I have a CPO it was not covered the second time. However, since the second repair was so soon after the first they did it free and classified it as "Goodwill."

Thanks Jeron, It's a little dissappointing when they sell you the car and tell you almost everything is covered on a certified car. The "almost" never seems to cover the problem. They quoted me something like $600. flat rate to repair it. I guess I will look for an independent shop that might be more reasonable. I repair many things, but the sunroof looks like a real mystery. Fortunately, there is no big rush to get it done. Roy

Yeah, the salesman repeatedly said it was "practically the same" as the factory warranty and when I asked how it was different he couldn't explain.

It doesn't cover any electrical, suspension or other wear items. I don't know WHY this sunroof issue isn't covered because it is not an electrical issue it is a weak part design issue. I does cover the engine, tranny and accessories like alt, p/s pump and water pump.

I think you could repair the sunroof yourself but it will be time consuming.
