Hmm, I have a friend in Schaumburg. Thats my extent of knowledge about Illinois, that and Lincoln was from there. Well enough rambling, I would reccomned you do a Google search on your car and see what you come up with.

Adam, was it BMW Certified? The reason i ask is, if yes than you've got pretty good coverage, it should have new brakes, belts, and a recent major service (aka. INSP 2)

Ok you might want to start off with having a major service. ie all fluids, all filters, spark plugs, check brakes, consider replace. might need new rotors all the way around if never done b4

I agree, it's a good idea to have the car serviced. This will tell you a lot about the overall condition of the car. At the very least, change all fluids and check the brakes.

Congrats on the new car.

I would recommend chaging your oil every 1000 miles for the first few months you have the car. It sounds like the car's oil was not changed near often enough, and by changing it often, you can clean out you engine a bit. I am sure your oil is quite dark. Yes, change all fluids, filters, and check brakes.
