Manual transmission lubricant?

My trans on my '99 540i-6 shifts hard, with a not quite grind, more like a grumble, between 1-2 and 2-3 when the trans is cold wi outside temps below 50 deg. A rare occurance in S. Fla. I am wondering if switching to the Audi permanant trans lube might help. Milage is around 54K now. BMW motorcycle lube 70-90 synthetic is my next choice. Any advise, experience, comments?

thanks
Ed

I dont think you want to run moto-lube in your car's gearbox. I may be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure that moto-lube has sulphides in it, that would be a bad thing to put in your gearbox.

Most of my Porsche customers swear by the Swepco 201 for manual transmissions:

I'm not sure if it's the proper formulation for the 540 (not sure what type of synchros are in there), but it sure works well in the Porsches...

Redline MTL is to BMW transmissions what Swepco is to Porsche transmissions.

I'd give the Redline a try, if your particular car calls for a GL-4 lubricant (most BMWs do - some of the "green dot" transmissions apparently call for a special lubricant - I'm not sure about your car).

I assume by now you have changed the oil in your transmission. What method did you use to get the oil into the inlet port on the side of the transmission? Is there some type of pump available for this procedure?
