Question Water temperture gauge?

I live in Miami, FL and lately temperture have gone up to 100 F!! I've noticed on my 92' 525I 5-speed that my temp gauge passes to 3/4; but then comes down to 1/2 wayin stop and go traffic or hard accelarations...is this normal or this something to be concerned about?

Thanks...

Your car shouldn't go above halfway even in 100 degree heat.

If your fan uses a fan clutch (and I think it does), the fan clutch may need to be replaced. That's what your symptoms suggest.

Also, if your radiator is original, and if you haven't kept the coolant fresh, it is possible that your radiator isn't functioning as well as it could.

But the fan clutch is a cheaper and easier first try.

I'd first check the thermostat, make sure it is functioning properly, then i'd do a coolant flush to get the system clean, then check the fan clutch.

Thanks...I'll check/or replace thermostat first then flush and see what happens? BTW my the aux fan does work, it kicks in as soon as gauge starts climbing?

Hmm, I've heard of the small resistor in line burning out on the A/C fan. I'll have some info for you shortly, as i am going through my whole system.
