530i motor
I have had a '94 530i for a few years now, 82kmiles on it so far. I noticed some postings about the motor and warranty. What is up with this? I assume if I call the dealer and ask I might not get a straight answer. Can anyone inform me a bit more? Thanks,

If you do a Yahoo search using the terms BMW V8 and nikasil you'll find a bunch of stuff.
Here's an example: http://www.koalamotorsport.com/tech/misc/v8shortblock.htm The extended warranty on the engines ran to 100,000 miles or 6 years, which ever came first. The 6 years has generally run, so its tough to get warranty coverage anymore these days. Not impossible - sometimes you can get a dealer to do a "goodwill" repair. But, lots of people have had lots of battles over that. There was a time a few years ago when I remember the market being flooded with cheap 94/95 V8s, typically with 90,000 to 98,000 miles on them. The timing and the mileage were not coincidences . . . |

I've heard that having a friend at the dealership helps a lot as well.

Based on your appearant lack luster history with dealer repairs on your 944, I would first find a new dealer...
When are you going to respond to Jeffs emails? Karma - gotta love it... Scott Schroeder
