3rd brake light blowing continually

Hi,

1999 528, I have replaced 3 bulbs and one socket on my third brake light in the last two months. When I replaced the socket it was because the bulb had melted it and fused to it.
I am not going to pay $97/hr. for BMW to troubleshoot this so I am looking for a little help here.

Thoughts?

madm5 is speaking the truth. do some looking around on the boards, i've posted pretty in depth explanations as to why bimmers are notorious for this problem. Using only BMW bulbs, sockets, etc will keep this from happening. Also, what the average joe doesn't understand is that a failing brake light switch will eat up bulbs also. When BMW recommends their parts, they mean it.

I guess I wasn't clear enough, the two sockets that were used are from BMW, and all bulbs used were from BMW...

Still have the problem, new socket and bulb lasted 2 days.

I will be doing some electrical testing this weekend to see if I can find the problem. I could deal without the third light, but the dash warning display is too bright to ignore.
