e28 speaker wiring problem HELP
'86 535i
New car to me. I have several other BMW's as well. Anywho, all speakers work except for front left. It was hanging out when I got the car (FREE). Frt. right spkr. has 3 wires going to it. Frt. lft has 4 wires in the hole. I took the frt. lft. speaker and hooked it the the frt. right wires to make sure the spkr. is good. It is good. So now I have the spkr with 3 posts, but four wires??? I have tried every combination including looking for a ground, etc. I do get a little "static" when making connections, but no sound. I've pulled up the carpet, & looked in the hole with a mirror to see if there's anything "undone" anywhere. Nothing. Anyone have a diagram?? I searched archives and found that Bentley has a flaw in this area. TIA Front right: ![]() Front left:

Hi,
I'm not an expert on the stereo wiring but on my '88 528, my driver side has 4 wires; 2 of the wires are used for the "mirrior area" tweeters. If you don't have the tweeters in the mirror area, then I believe that the extra wires are not used. Vern |

Still nothing. I think the problem is somewhere else. I'm giving the car to my wife and she always fades to the rear speakers exclusively anyway. Maybe next winter I'll get into it again. I have to move on to other projects now. THANKS!!!
