At the mercy of foreign auto repairs shops in palm beach county florida, it would be nice if anyone has any idea as to what could be my problem here-
last week, the fuse for the speakers/lighter(cell charger) went on the fritz- i couldn't replace it as it sparked- a short somewhere. i pulled out the fuse until i could find time to check for the short. last night, my o2 sensor light came on. about 20 mile slater, i put the car into park, and it was like the accelator was stuck, the fuel guage also wasn't registering nor did the right (?) turn signal work. I checked the OBD 1, this am, but after hitting depressing the accelerator 5 times in 2.5 secs, nothing happened. i started the car, and it was idling normally. does anyone think the problem has to do with the 02 sensor, or a fuse? i would appreciate any feedback, as I am taking it to a new mechanic and don't want to pay for reapirs that aren't needed. this is my 7th bmw since 1983. i hope to be able to return the favor for any of you who may have questions I can help with- many thanks, lorrin |

specifics re: 528e
o.k. last nite a few hours after 02 sensor light went on, i parked the car. suddenly it seemed as though i was fully accelerating- had the car been in drive i would have taken off like a bat out of hell... the fuel guage wasn't registering, nor was one of the turn signal switches. i thought maybe i had hit the cruise control by mistake or something. i turned the car off, and started her up again, same thing - the engine was revving without me touching the gas.
i read that "bmws from 1984 use Motronic, prior to 1995, known as OBD1" page 1 of pelican tech series 'reading bmw fuel injection fault codes'. it was rated difficulty level 1 so i thought fo rsure it was in my ballpark ![]() prior to this i had the short related to fuse for speakers/lighter and thought maybe there was a relationship. i am a nurse, so obviously my understanding of the human body structure and function far exceeds that of my car. i hope you can help me! lorrin |

Your accelleration escapade & the elctrical problems are totally separate issues......theres absoloutely nothing electronic related to the throttle, short of the cruise control WHICH, would be an anomoly. Disconnect the cruise control for now and get that out of the way.,
The sucession of electrical maladies leads me to beleive one thing....you have a dead short. Where is it? is up for grabs. The very first thing Id do, and I realize that you probably rely on this car for your main transportation, is to obtain a "Bentley's" manual on the car & a $20 multimeter. Youre going to learn how to troubleshoot an electrical problem. Bentelys has the best single line diagrams available short of obtaining a "factory mechanics manual at $$$. Next, read the troubleshooting section.....its a start. The one most important thing I would do is remove the fuses that seem to be trouble spots (obviousely, the stero fuse it fried) . The Ox sensor issue is best checked by pulling the relay out.......look under your fuse / load cover for a location..its one of those square plastic doo da's with 4 or 5 prongs..... replace it. They are avail. at most autoparts stores..or.... the "stealer" (dealer) I know this sounds like alot to undertake & you didnt anticipate becoming a mechanic......but its either/ or.....right? (you or the mechanic) Best of luck. |
