Inspection Intervals
My 2001 525 just flipped over to 55,000 miles. When it did, the inspection light came on. I was of the understanding that the inspection wasn't due until 60,000 miles. Is this just BMW's way of helping out procrastinators or is my car just very eager to get up on the lift?

The service light interval takes in to account cold starts, short trips, high RPM driving etc. So the 15k and 30k intervals are general guidelines.
It wont hurt to drive it with the light on for a while, but I would at least do a light checkup yourself. Meaning check the items you should check every month yourself anyway such as oil, coolant, tires etc.
