528 water pump
I have a 2000 528 (E39) that has a noisy pump. It was replaced 18 months ago ... maybe they used a bad re-built. The bushing has no obvious play and it's not leaking but sounds terrible.
I'd like to change the pump but can't see an easy way of removing the shroud so I can get the fan off. Anyone have a good procedure to remove the shroud and fan? Thanks. '99 323 '00 528 '83 911SC |

I think I've seen write ups on E39 radiator removal but I'd have to search.
Are you certain it is the pump and not a pulley bearing?

I loosened the belt and the pulleys seem to be ok. I held a wood dowel against the pump and my ear and it sure sounds like the pump.

Thanks. I still don't see how to remove the fan without removing the fan shroud first. The fan shroud is the item that I'm finding most difficult to remove.
Thanks for the information. I'll print it out and go over it while under the hood.

I didn't read it but sometimes the fan is loosened and it is pulled up WITH the shroud.
