Need help with E39 leveling system

I have a 2000 528IT that seems to have the rear suspension and full pressure. It does not respond to having one side jacked up and the car rides very hard in the rear.
Any ides how to diagnose the system? Thanks for any help.

How long have you had the car and have you tried loading up the car and then turning on the car to see if the suspension is adjusting to compensate?

I ask this because I've had my car for about a month now and I originally thought the same as you but other E39 wagon owners that I have spoken to say the air suspension does ride a bit harsh when unloaded especially in the cold weather.

I have the Bentley Manuals for the E39, while it illustrates how to take the suspension apart, it does NOT give any guidance on how to trouble shoot the air suspension. It does indicate that if something is wrong you should take it to a BMW Stealership to use devices called DIS-plus, GT1 or MoDIC to diagnose the system codes.

- There are warnings that the system is under pressure and the pressure shold be relieved by turning off the air pump which is the bump under the spare tire by removing the relay which is attach to the pump.
- The EHC control module is mounted on the right side of the spare tire well in the cargo compartment.
- There are height detection sensors attached to the left and right sides of the rear suspension.
- There is a quick coupling screw connector on each air spring that can be loosened to depressure each air spring.

Good luck let us know what you find.
