Replacing Spark Plugs on a E39
I would like to know if changing spark plugs is an easy task. I have 134,000 Miles, last night I pulled the cover and noticed sparking around the packs. Are the coil packs bad also?

Replacing the plugs is easy but take your time.
If it is sparking form the coils then the engine should be running rough. Also, you should be able to see where the sparking is from when you pull the coils. |
Jeron,
Do you have a step by step approach to replacing them? I was told by a BMW tech that i should replace the rubber boots also. Should i use BMW only parts to replace? You are right the engine run rough. Rod |
Engine cold
blow out the wells to get any debris out of them I put a very thin coat of anti-seize on the threads dont cross thread use a torque wrench I would be concerned about what caused the boots to degrade. Are all of them bad? Definitely inspect and replace anything that is cracked or dry rotted. |
Ditto on the anti seize, cheapest insurance you can buy
