rear suspension and drive group rebuild
Anyone tackled a rebuild of the rear suspension and drive train on an E39?
The differential and trans is fine. I've kept the oil changed out. But I'm looking at wheel bearings, half shafts, suspension joints, drive shaft joints and support bearing, struts, etc.. Is it easier to drop the whole rear assembly out? She's got 210K on the clock, but for an 11 year old car I still get comments on how nice it looks. Any insight? Thanks db |

Wait until the wheel bearings and half shafts go bad.
Driveshaft bushing and sometimes center support bearing are wear items. Struts/shocks, rubber bushings and ball joints are what I would replace.

Are you experiencing vibrations? Have you checked the Guibo? (think thats what that big six hole rubber doughnut transmission to drive shaft damper/connector is called). Are your thrust arm bushings OK? if you are going to go through that extent you may as well replace all that you can see. Good luck and happy motoring
