Do Brains/cpu/dme NEED TO BE RE-PROGRAMED or Are they PLUG & PLAY?
I have a 2001 540i / 6spd with a suspect CPU unit. I was under the impression you could just swap it out and plug in the replacement/used one. (as I have done with my early porsche 944 cars).
The recycler told me as I went to buy a used brain, that it needs to be reprogrammed and mosty independent shops cant do it. The the '01 540 all use the same part# brain.
Any thoughts folks before I plunk down my cash for a used one?
