Thinking of jumping in

I hang out on the other side of Pelican but am considering buying a 1997 528I as my daily driver (I commute 10 minutes to the office).
The car is a 2 owner vehicle with less than 68,000 miles and all service records.
It is an automatic (kind of where I am at now).
What should I be looking for?
Should I be looking for a different model/year?
Thanks in advance.

I don't follow 5-series much but that engine is the same as the 3's of that era. The engine is very solid.

The most important thing, as will all car purchases, is to get a well maintained car.

BMW's have about as many help resources on the web as Porsches. You should be able to find answers to any common problems that model when problems arise.

Thanks for the input Jeron.
I am seeing the car this weekend.
Apparently it has all of the paperwork and has been recently serviced (oil, filters, etc).
It has been a long time since I have wned a BMW.
The last one I had was a 533i.
It was so long ago I can't even remeber what year it was.

I say go for it, as long as the maintenance records check out. We canhelp you fix most of the problems that might pop up anyway.

One thing that seems prevalent is cooling system issues. check the records for any of those type of repairs.

I really enjoy driving our iT even if it IS a wagon. It's a different feel than the 911 but it does handle quite well for a land yacht.

Oh, and it looks darn good sitting together with the 911 in the garage.

Thats a good point about the cooling system. The easiest way to an expensive repair is headwarp by overheating.

Ask about the cooling system. Drive the car around and let it sit and idle with the A/C on for 10 minutes.
