BMW Roundel e34 525i cannot get trunk open

key turns in trunk lock but does not release the lock. also fails to lock or unlock car doors through central locking system. don't know what is wrong but gotta get into the trunk to fix it. all car door lock and unlock normally. key fob ditto. anyone experience a similar problem? any ideas on how to get the blinking trunk open to check the mechanism? BTW there are no dead bodies in there, not even Jimmy Hoffa, but some day maybe I will need the spare tire.

sounds like your rod has came offf lock......will have to drill

hole in trunk....right behind lic. plate.....and open thru hole

no other way to get into the trunk, huh? Nuts! I really don't like the idea of drilling a hole in the car body but I suspect your diagnosis is right on....thanks for the info.

I opened the trunk by going through the rear fold down seats. Removing the carpet plugs on the trunk carpet. Then lifting up the vertical rod with pliers. After the trunk is opened you can see how the parts work together.
