Replacing the battery

This is probably really basic, but I just don't want to mess anything up.

I got a new battery for my long-dead 1993 BMW 525 and when I hooked it up everything seemed to be going well (I could hear the car powering up and when I put the key in lights came on), but when I tried to start it, there was a popping and sparking from the negative terminal.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for any help!

Kristin

Don't you just hate that !!!

Remove the terminal. Attack the battery post with a wire brush, until it's shiney. Clean the inside of the terminal with a wire brush. Bolt it back together tight, and the problem should go away.
