I have an '84 528e. The check engine light is flashing when I turn the ignition to the on position the only way I can make it stop is to press the test button on the computer up on the roof. The pedal depression test doesn't work to produce any codes. It just keeps flashing no matter what. The car won't run. It will start and run for a few seconds and then stop. Replaced all fuses and relays, as well as the in-line fuel pump the one accessed from the trunk. Thoughts or ideas? Thanks.

The light that is blinking is the system check light. These vehicles don't have fault codes you can read via a check engine light. I suggest checking to see what is missing when the engine stalls. Spark, fuel or air.
