2001 525 oil leak question...HELP...!

anyone know what oil line this that is leaking at the "Y" shaped part of the line just above the engine oil pan it looks like...maybe the line is off the base of the motor but looks like the top of the oil pan...
**wooden ruler is touching the leaking line...
Also, after we figure out what the leaking oil line p/n is, is this difficult/what is involved to replace this line...?
thx a lot...bob

That looks like the dipstick tube.

The Y part is the PCV drain which comes down as a hose and joins the dipstick tube just before it enters the top of the pan.

On that model BMW the PCV is called a Cyclone Separator and its plastic hoses and parts are a pain to deal with.

The dipstick tube is easy to remove. The rubber drain tube will have to be pulled off of the metal dipstick tube and there may be a wire or tube that is strapped to the metal tube. Otherwise it is just has a single bolt at the top under the intake.

Once disconnected it just pulls out of the oil pan. There will be a O-ring that will probably stay lodged in the oil pan and it should probably be removed and replaced.

You will have to remove the intake tubing of course but that is easy.

Your oil leak could be from the o-ring at the bottom of the dipstick tube or coming down from the brittle cyclone separator tubing above.
