any advice towing with a uhaul car dolly
Has anyone had any experience towing a vehicle using a uhaul car dolly. I am going to tow
a vehicle using my Mercedes ML. I will be towing it nearly 500 miles. Regards, Dave Wright

Is it a bolt-on attachment or does it carry the wheels?

What i meant was,
Does the dolly carry the wheels of the car you will be carrying, or does it bolt on to the car you are carrying? Also, will you be using a ball hitch or a reciever hitch? |

make sure you disconnect the drive shaft to avoid possible transmission problems.

yes even in neutral the main shaft of the transmission will turn. since the main shaft and the bearings are lubed via the splash method, it is possible for the bearings to run low or without any oil. if the car has an automatic trans the problems are worse. the owner's manual should outline the correct method for towing.
per the owner's manual issued for my 1988 635 csi-towing automatic cars- speed should not exceed 30 mph and the max distance is 25-30 miles. good luck |

Youre right. i didnt think about the mainshaft. Of course you could always lock the front wheels and tow like that....
