blower motor

We have a 1988 735i with a couple of problems:

1. Blower motor would only work when door was slammed hard.
Now it doesn't work at all.

2. How do I set the time and things on the on-board computer. It just blinks "heure" .

3. Is there a source for reasonably priced windshields?

4. What could low speed shudder be when starting from 0 up to about 30 mph?

5. Power door locks seem to be dead.

Thanks for the help

1) The blower motor problem sounds like a bad connection. When you slammed the door, it "shook things up" & the connection was made again. Now the connection has gotten worse & slamming doesn't work. Try tracing the wiring back to a power source & ground. Could be a loose/dirty connection in a plug or gnd terminal or a broken wire (internally, under the insulation wouldn't show - you'll need a meter to test).

2) Could be "broken" but get hold of an owner's manual for the car (dealer can order for you). There's lots of neat things it can do that you'll never know about w/o the manual! Anyway, it'll tell you how to set everything up & how to change languages and units of measurements to suit you.

3) Reasonably priced windshield? Sounds like an oxymoron. Try local salvage yards. Probably one that deals with European cars will be your best bet. Or, you could try to get your comprehensive insurance to put in a new one. Comp usually covers glass with no deduction.

4) Could be the driveshaft. The universals tend to go and cause that kind of symptom. If you're a BMWCCA member, check in the back of the Roundel. there's a few cos that advertize rebuilt units at reasonable prices. I'd get it checked out by a pro before opting for the driveshaft purchase though.

5) A bit obvious, but did you check the fuse?

These are of course, just suggestions, but I hope some/all of them help.

Send a message via AIM to Bear
Shudder

Acceleration shudder is quite often the Center Driveshaft Support going bad. Also, the Automatic transmission support bushings in time deteriorate. I just replaced the center support on my 1988 750 (it was oval and not round) and the transmisson support bushings were flat. After replacing these items the shudder is gone ant hte car is very smooth in acceleration and cruise.

I agree with bear here, replacing the bearing and coupling may be the answer.
