The rear speakers in my 93 740 iL are about shot and I plan to replace them. These are component speakers (separate midrange and tweeter). The stock speakers are Nokia. Go figure; thought they only made phones.
Anyway, I'm considering MB Quart Reference series components. However they come with their own crossover circuit. My question is whether the stock system already has a separate crossover circuit board and if so where is it located? It would need to come out. Also, does the stock 740 system come with a separate amp (with crossover circuit?), or is it just powered from the radio? I would think given the number of speakers in the 740, there must be a separate amp somewhere, but I'm not sure. I do have the factory CD changer if that impacts anything. |

Check the trunk near the CD changer for an additional amp but I don't think they came with one. Or if you have the factory phone you might check the inside sidewall of the trunk where it is located.
