My shifter is stuck...

Long story short, I pulled my console out a couple of days ago and was pulling the shifter around while doing it, and when I finally got the console out the right way, the shifter is jammed up now. I have a 1980 635csi Euro with the dogleg trans. I seems to be stuck in the forward left gear, which I'm not familiar with yet, as I just acquired the car. I tried rocking the car while wiggling the shifter, but it didn't help. What can I do? Thanks, Cale

And you cant pull it down? I would check all the linkage to make sure that nothing is caught in there, preventing it from moving.

They don't appear to be...I had rowed through the gears several times before that to see what it felt like. I did find out though that the previous own had installed a short throw shifter, if that makes a difference. Cale
