diagnostic codes
Hello everyone!!! A friend has me doing some work on two 1987 635csi that he just bought. I've never done any work on BMW's before this. The check engine light on both cars are on. Now I was told that to read the codes, all I have to do is turn on the ignition and pump the gas pedal to the floor five times within five seconds. Well I can't seem to get it to work on either car. Can someone tell me how it's done. Thanks.

I am not sure that you can do the stomp test on your car due to early MOTRONIC. I believe you need at least a MOTRONIC 1.1 to code her out and you may not have that version. Example, my 1988 750 with a build of 11/87 did not code by stomp test, and did not even have a CEL. I would guess you will need a scan tool and I would be looking for and Independent Tech.
