Transmission code issue

How much would cost me to clear this code.

I also have Check Engine light.

My car is a E38 750iL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

I am able to drive in Manual mode, only in 4 th gear. If i use the D mode, car will not move immediately, if keep accelerating it, then i get the code, then my car will move slowly.

Any ideas.

Arrow trans code

So what is the actual code you are getting; is it 'transmission fail safe' mode? I got this code pretty quickly after the shop forgot to fill the trans fluid. The car would start out in top gear very very slowly from a stop. No biggie as it turns out - everything is ok. I would not drive the car before finding the problem. Take it to the stealer if you have to for this one.

I have gotten a lot of use out of my Peake Research code reader/reset tool. I originally purchased it to reset the oil service lights but have used it to read and reset many error codes resulting the the check engine light. Taking the car to the stealer every time would be expensive and a major waste of time.

"TRANS FAILSAFE PROG" - 750 IL

Thanks for quick reply,..

The exact code is --> "TRANS FAILSAFE PROG".

I recently brought this car, about 9 months ago.

Since i do not know much about the CAR, i chose to bring the car to the DEALERSHIP.

Actually i was doing 20 miles per hr, and took right turn in downtown,,, after took the turn i got "TRANS FAILSAFE PROG".
Same day i took my car to the dealer's mechanical shop, they told me to change the whole transmission, they could not point me out the exact problem.

My car had all kinds of services time to time, it has 73000 miles.

I don't know whom should i contact to proceed further, i have only one dealership in my town.

Do i need to find a different guy to show my car.

I am still driving my car without problem,,,, WILL that be OKAY to drive in city ????? untill i find the solution ?

CHECK ENGINE light came after "TRANS FAILSAFE PROG" code.

PLEASE Suggest me to handle this issue...

Approximate amount to CLEAR this code ?

Thanks

I think the code reader tool costs about $150. I don't know how much the dealer will charge to reset the check engine light. There is obviously another code that triggered the light that may or may not be related to the trans.

They want to do what - install a new trans - holy... and they can't troubleshoot it. That doesn't sound quite right to me. Can you take it to an independent shop for a 2nd opinion? I use one for all non DIY issues.

I have to say the an e38 is one expensive car to maintain provided a shop/dealer does all the work. I can't say that about any of my past cars: chevy camaro, mazda rx7, saab 9000 turbo, toyota land cruiser, porsche 911.
