Gotta love the oil filter housing placement
I never thought I would see the day when I could drain oil and change spark plugs faster than I could replace the oil filter.
It took me every bit of 15 minutes to replace the filter on the 735i. I could not get that bolt to line up until my wrist went numb. It took less time to pull the plugs and drain all the oil ![]()

Had an '84. Sometimes found that it was easier to come in from the top. A bit of threading the filter housing in through the hoses and you could get it into position.
What I never understood is that I had an '82 733 also and there the filter housing was near the top of the engine and all you had to do was unbolt the filter holder, and drop it down. Don't know why BWM in it's infinite wisdom has a simple solution and then went service unfriendly again. Now have an 540 and 740 with the same engines and it's a dream oil change. All up top and simple screw-off/screw-on top.
