What sort of references and what sort of performance parts are you wanting info about?
I personaly find a good mailing list (to ask questions) and searches via google to be most helpfull. What model car do you have? what sort of upgrades do you want to do? what is your goal? Saintly '97 Ti Sport DASC, TT S2, B&M SSk |

i have a 528e but to fix that up to race it on the track would be a long expensive project, even though i would still love to do that. Others have suggested another model, 325i, or another make. I want to make a fast car to go and have fun a the track and see what i can get on the quarter mile.

Hmmm..
Well i would think that you would be looking at different setups for a track car as apposed to a drag car but the basics would be simular. 1) Displacement.. get a 6 cyl like a 325 or 328.. probbly a 328 if you can 2) weight.. strip what you can from the car 3) strenght.. add a cage (if you really want to race more than a few track days). if adding a cage then best to have it connect all the way to the strut towers front and back. diaganal braces are where the strenght is. if you don't want to add a cage, install an x-brace (under the car accross the tranny tunnel), and strut tower braces (front and rear). if adding a cage then add the braces too. the stiffer the body, the better it will respond to the new suspension. 4) suspension.. i guess that a drag car will have different requirements to a track car but whatever way you go, it's the same thing, suspension keeps the rubber on the blaks stuff and that is VERY important so don't skimp on that. 5) Then go and do track days and training courses.. practice practice practice... 6) Then when you can out drive your car you can start looking at upgrades for the power. i'm not hugely knowledgeable about what is available for the 6Cyl cars but you should have a few options for Normaly Asperated, Turbos or Superchargers. Depending on who you want to race with there may be limits on what you can do so check that first (this may also affect your choice of car.. eg there may be a 2.5L limit so a 328 would not be alowed or perhaps turbos are not allowed). When you look at each section above do some searches in the forums or in google and then come back and ask more questions.. every persons requirements is different so there isn't a "put this on" type of answer. as far as brand goes, for a track / street car i don't think you can go past a BMW.. i love them.. but for a drag car there would be cheeper/lighter options. Hope this helps.. let me know what you find and decide to get. Saintly '97 Ti Sport DASC, TT S2, B&M SSk
