Considering an '89 325IX, any advice?

I usually hang out on the Porsche lists, but I am thinking about buying an '89 325IX. The car has 155K and has been regularly maintained. It recently had a transmission flush and service, neither the engine nor transmission leak. I am planning on replacing the timing belt as soon as I get it home. The current owner said that the voltage regulator needs replaced... Is this part of the alternator, or located somewhere else?? Any advice that can be offered is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nick

-When was your timing belt changed or tensioned??
-Yes, I'm the crazy man that will loan out my 9201. Just PM me, I will add you to the list and get it out ASAP.

Nick, that's a great car, hope it works out well for you. The main downside to ownership is the price of parts, maybe that won't be a big issue...
The regulator is part of the alternator, I show a part number of
12311726022
Pelican has them:

Voltage Regulator, 318i (1984-85), 318i/is/iC (1991), 325/e/es/i/is/iC/iX (1984-91), M3 (1987-91)
Brand: Bosch [Photo]

12-31-1-726-022-M14 $33.25

Keep us informed on the progress. Should be a great driver.

Thanks! I was looking for a respectable 4 door awd vehicle for several reasons:

-Mustang just blew the motor (need a car)
-Wife can't drive a manual transmission (must be auto)
-First child is due in 5 weeks (must be 4 door)
-Winter on it's way (wont drive Porsches in snow + awd is nice)
-I refuse to drive "rice" (Porsche and BMW are my 2 favorites)

I'm sure I will be ordering the regulator soon, as I think I am going to go ahead and get the car. I will probably diag further when I get it home to see if I can get by with just the regulator, or if I will need a whole alternator.

Thanks!
Nick
