Same lack of power problem new topic
Now that I know that my Cam sprockets are stock I still keep digging, someone on FB group mentioned stick coils, but they are new, why not check again.... No fire on left side, swap left right, still no fire ON THE LEFT! Also left plug looks like it never sparked: electrode is brand new, no erosion, no heat, so I assume dealer saw no spark, replaced coil and called it a day....
Now I got to find why left side is dead, assume bad wire, but I need to find a diagram for this bike, 2004 twin spark |
Matt, How does the bike run if you disconnect both lower plugs?
This diagram will get you close: https://www.mac-pac.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/R1150RT-2-Plug-Elec-Diagram-V1_3.pdf but fuse numbers will be different. I have full schematics if there’s something else you’d like to know. |

this confirms my fear that each coils is triggered by ECU directly, they all have common power and separate grounds, so if I have connectivity from coil to ECU pin I will be needing new motronic unit :( |
ive not seen a bad motronic I might have a spare
|
Mystery Solved! (I hope) not sure how I missed it, seems it's barely held together by some plastic... bet whoever did the plugs last time broke it...
Bought used Motronic because one came up cheap ($100) so now I will have a spare Now a million dollar question: where do I get a coil plug? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1543038004.jpg |
should be a spare on the harness repair page of the bmw parts diagram
get the contacts as well it looks fubar |

Can that plug be ordered without any wires ?
I just want to buy the plug. |
I think what you're looking for is #9 on this page.
https://www.ascycles.com/bmw/1999/R1100S/Engine%20electrical%20system/Ignition%20system,%20double-ignition.html#PartsTable I broke one of those connections many years ago. From what I remember, it's a simple fix. If my memory is correct, the plug comes pre-wired with a short length of wire to be soldered to the existing control wire. Cut the old on off, solder the new one on. Mike |

got everything from MAX BMW, wire repair kit, spark plugs, air filter, valve cover gaskets and o-rings, working on assembly. Replaced brake lines while the tank was off, might get it finished in couple days, not much work left, just need to find time
Will test and report back once it's done, of course today is last reasonably warm day in the extended forecast, dropping from mid-50's in to 30's, luckily thins bike really shines in cold weather! |
Finished assembly and went for a quick ride, HOLY ****!! IT HAS BALLS!!! Even lofted front wheel few times. No more chugging, shaking, stalling, I'm in love with it again!!

Is it the wrong plug for the coil . The coil plug is fragile. It would be nice to replace the plug, and not having to buy the " wire repair kit" . |

It was maybe $23? wrong color, but who cares, bike is running like raped ape! |

Rode it again this weekend to a brunch 40 miles away... was so excited to use the bike that I went out in a pouring rain and then spent the rest of the day on it, went to work then couple parties, came home late night in freezing temps, in love it it all over again, can't believe I was ready to sell it
