Yes, but you get to go to *Berlin* to pick up your new machine. Seems that's where a big chunk of the money goes. Of only 2003 being made, only 200 are coming to the US, so yet another *special edition*.

Wow, that price is hardly worth it. I just spent a day riding with and evaluating the new Rockster. I was happy to get back on my S after riding the Rockster for a while. It has a decent engine and looks to have all the S drivetrain, but it handels WAY different. Super wide, turned up handelbars make the front end twitchy. The seat is toooo cushy and tall, like a big sofa cushion. You can't move around on the seat without rolling over from side to side. The suspension was more harsh than my worn out stock S suspension with 31K miles on it. You had to set the damping at almost full soft to keep the bike from skittering all over the road. At $16,490 for a "special" Rockster, I absolutely love my old '99 S now.

At $16,490 you get a fairly all inclusive trip to Berlin to take German delivery of the Special Edition Rockster. I believe the package allows for 10 days of lodging and food, airfare to and from, and the transport of the bike to the USA upon completion of the 10 day tour which will be similar to an Edelwiess deal. All in all its not that expensive considering the trip and unique promotion. I think our 2 slots are already spoken for.

That would be cool if
The bike was an S that has lost about 50 lbs, came with a girl named "Helga" who would get me beers and wash my bike after riding each day........I looked at a Rockster in Daytona. Just didn't do anything for me.
For 11,990 you can get a Brand new Aprilia Tuono, with 115hp, serious attitude, top of the line components and minimilistic "clothing" Meow, that's sexy baby................................

TJS
Those prices seem right for the "regular" Rocksters; the $16K+ pricetag is for the 80th Anniversary Rockster, which is the only one that gets you to Berlin for delivery.

I dunno, but I think the Tuono is butt ugly. Just CF covering up engine bits which were always meant to be hidden behind a fairing. It's not a pretty engine!
Meanwhile the Rockster looks ballsy. The R259 was made to be exposed. As far as the sofa seat...I looked at it at the dealership this weekend. I think you could probably easily swap that seat out for the deep cut R1150R seat. Should just drop in.

Greetings,
I don't know about that 80th Edition "Rockster"......Dull Alpine White ( dull like the graphitan paint) and Sapphire black metallic decals....???? BMW "Couda been a contenda" with some inventive pickings from the parts bin here..... Why, this is just a "Rockster" (Zebra) with different paint. Lets see here: 80th Edition $16,400.00 Regular Rockster -$12,990.00 WOW $ 3,410.00 I have heard about the details of the trip and it is a first class tour thru Bavaria with a party every nite..... And if you want to bring someone......it is extra! Speachless, Robert

1967 R50/2,
The Carbon covered limited edition you speak of is, I agree less than "pretty".... But at the Bike Show 2 weekends ago here in the DC area, they had the production ones and only very few bits are carbon. The bike is fire engine red and looks awesome. Something about dem nekid bikes....But none the less, that ugly motor makes gobs of HP and Torque in it's stock trim. Uses OZ rims, good suspension components and just all around nice bike. Besides who cares how ugly it may be, most all other bike riders won't see it cause it will be out in front!

I have to agree with Firebolter one this as well... Although I love my S, I have been lusting for the Tuono since it's intro as a concept, and even more now that it's available for less than the 17K limited version. Hard to argue with the performance, and it comes with the parts that BMW should have put on our bikes from the factory.
