Help sorting new 1100s

Hey everyone,
I bought I 2001 1100s with around 45k, but the old owner (professional bike mechanic) installed a 2002 r1150r motor that has about 5k on it.
I’ll confess this is my first grown up bike—
Previous bikes were, in order:
1967 Vespa 150 sprint
1972? Cb350
1997 ninja 250

All were stock. I did general maintenance— oil changes etc.

Road the hell out of all of these bikes. They were pretty simple machines. I feel like I’ve upgraded to a fighter jet. The bike sounds and rides amazing, but mechanically, I feel out of my league.

Here’s what I know on my current bike:
Wilbur shocks part 1603041900
Beemer bone box
Metaled sportec interact tires

Other Farkles—
Aftermarket heated grips
Sergeant seat
Corbin seat
Carbon fiber mirrors and other bits of trim

Things it doesn’t have:
Center stand
ABS— not sure if it was disconnected or if it was never on the bike.

As I understand the boxer cup replica did not have the center stand, heated grips or abs, but my bike doesn’t have the boxer cup paint scheme.

Also, do I understand correctly that there are different ways to locate the bars to lower them or raise them? I’d like mine a little lower.

Other questions,
Engine maintenance wise— are there any real differences between the r1150r and the r1100s engine— like is an oil head an oiled head when it comes to oil changes etc.

Is there a way to look up my serial/vin for the bike to find out what was factory included.

What else should I be thinking about regarding maintaining this bike.

Your '01 S cannot be a Boxer Cup Repika since they were not produced until '03.
You've got a handlebar conversion kit on it. The stock setup was "clip on" style mounted to the fork tubes.
I don't recall there ever being an all black S.
The stock mirrors are fairing mounted where the oval covers are installed on yours.
You have what I believe are called City lids on your panniers (saddlebags). They are much narrower than the standard lids.
Maintenance between the different oilheads (1100/1150) is basically the same. The name "oilhead" comes from the fact that these engines come equipped with an oil cooler as opposed to the earlier "airheads" which were air cooled. The subsequent "hexhead" denotes the shape of the valve cover and 1200cc displacement. After that come the "Camhead" which had dual overhead camshafts and the "Wethead" which were liquid cooled.
Centerstands were an option as far as I know, but most bikes had them.
If you have a convienient BMW dealer, they can take your last 7 of the vin and get you a printout of what the bike originally included.

Looks like some iteration of an R1100S "Lite." Or, just the black but appears repainted. But that's just the frame if so, as the engine is gone. The valve covers are painted, Does it have the stickers on it that say r1100s ? Can't see.

Regarding the engine. Maintenance is essentially the same, but they are different engines as far as performance.
R1100S: 11.3:1 compression 98 hp @ 7,500 rpm, 70 lb-ft torque at 5,750 rpm
R1150R: 10.3:1 compression 85 hp @ 6,750 rpm, 71 lb-ft torque at 5,250 rpm

What exhaust is that? Looks like a Ztechnik? That would be good. Exhausts are now rare & valuable.

The Wilbur shocks are good.

Extra seat is good, keep what you like and sell the other here on the buy & sell board.

Totally dislike the aftermarket black windscreen. I'd go back to stock.

Is that front fender original? Can't tell from the picture. Is it carbon fiber with blue threads?

The Center Stand may have been discarded when whomever put the Y-Pipe (exhaust) on removing the Cat which has a stop on it for the stand when up.
Did you get some of the original parts that have been replaced with the bike when you bought it?
Depending on how your going to use the bike but those handle-bars could be more comfortable on longer rides. Looks stealth in the Black paint.

No original parts, just the extra seat. The fender is carbon fiber. I think it must be the light version b/c it has the bigger rear tire. Metzler not “metallic” as written in my first post (Stupid autocorrect).
Not sure about the exhaust but I think it’s Ztechnik. It sounds awesome anyway. The bars are pretty comfy, but I may switch back to the sport bars as most of my riding is commuting twisties to work (20 miles). If any of you are in VT and want to go for a ride let me know. I believe I am seeing just a bit of the ABS ring on the front wheel so it appears it was born with ABS

I'm going out on a limb here and thinking the previous owner was not a BMW guy so a good round of checks would be in order on just about everything you can check. You will get all kinds of help from this crew as well as other sites.

Your bike looks like it's equipped with an auxiliary power connector.
It's the metal thing sticking out of the starter cover (part number 1).
You'll have to test with a voltmeter whether it's atually connected electrically.
Can someone tell me if it's alive (hot) all the time or just used to jump start the bike and not
hot normally ?
If it is hot all the time I would recommend buying the rubber cover for it - see part number 9, $4.83.

Good eye! It's a little hard to tell from the pic, but that looks like it might be a home-brewed version. Mine (OEM) looks a little different. And yeah, it's hot all the time.

This is the stock aux power connector:











A hot post with a cover and a matching negative post on the head.

Watch out for that screw on your cover, it may be full amperage with no fuse.

Hey! I didn't get the negative post in my kit. Did you buy that extra?

I have had that post on a number of my Oilheads. I pull that off before I sell them, I think they are pretty cool and can be used to replace the positive post as well.

On an S, as we all know, access to the battery can be a pain.

The foam gear shift linkage seals (2) are gone (typical). You can order them from BMW or alternately you can fit some longer lasting rubber o-rings or section out a foam earplug, drill a hole and force it over the ball. Works well. Clean and lube the balls and sockets while your at it.
