Wilbers

I am going to put a set of Wilbers on my 2004 R1100s prep. Does anyone have pictures of the rear installed. With the canister attached and without. I would rather have it all one piece if it will fit on the bike.

Let me know what model and if you are happy with the shock.

Thanks.

I have a 643 series shock (643-0418-00). The canister was removed before I got the shock, but I doubt there would have been any interference. The reservoir is in line with the shock body.

I love the shock.

Wilber’s install

Love my Wilber’s. I ordered 630 front 640 rear w/hydraulic preload based on my riding style and recommendations from Ted Porter at the Beemershop. I had already Removed evap cannister and I have the factory bag mounts. Went with the Blacklines as I thought the blue springs may be a bit much on a yellow bike. Good luck.

Really like my Wilberss..

Side view installed, it's not obvious but I had to trim my body work to put it there...

View from rear, view 90 deg CCW...

Closeup of the side view...

Preload adjuster on passenger side, sorry about the orientation, can't figure out how to turn them...

Thank you.

I want to thank all of you for taking the time to send pictures. I am going to place my order this week with Ted Porter.

It always good for me to get feedback on something I am going to do.

My canister is gone.

Square4man, did you make the bracket to attach the preload adjuster on the saddlebags mount points, or is it an available option from Ted Porter? If you made it, I would like to talk with you about it. It is very clean.

Thanks again to all.

Twitchy, mounting bracket with bolts came with preload adjuster. If you have ridden you bike for some time you’ll be very happy with the Wilber’s change. Ted’s a great guy to do business with.

I spoke to Ted Porter today. I have Works Performance shocks on the bike now. I have put 48,000 miles on them. The bike is lowered 1in. When I bought the bike in 2011 with 5,000 miles on it from a dealer in Colorado who installed the shocks, I asked him to put the stock shocks back on at the standard height. He told me to ride it home to New Jersey and if I didn't like them I could change them then. I love the lowered suspension and never put it back to stock height. I am getting the same from Ted Porter.

I am going to send the shocks to him so he can take his needed measurements. We talked about many different things including leverage ratios. If he has the Works shocks in his hand he can see exactly what I have now and give me any advice for improvement before building me a new pair of shocks. What a great suspension resource.

Thank you to all for your input. After talking with Ted for 30min. I can see why people say such positive things about him.

Rob.

E-mails tell me that I should get the Wilbers for my '03 BCR from Ted today. I ordered them both with manual preload adjustment because I won't be loading the bike with anything but me and a small tankbag. The rear will have remote damping adjustment that I'll have to mount of the frame somehow. Shouldn't be a problem.

The external damper you are referring to gives both high and low speed damping, if you push the bike, I think you will be pleased with the addition of the low speed damping, I've had it both ways and it's better with both high and low, preloader is handy and quick...good shocks, you'll like them, some of my favorites...

Frank, post an opinion how you feel about the shocks either way. I spoke to Ted Porter at length for a second time. I am very excited now. I feel like the process is started. I am hoping my bike handles at least as good and is more compliant. When I started riding in 1971, if something handled good, it rode like you were riding on a board. I enjoy the way a motorcycle can now handle very well and also ride well.

Timely thread. I’ve been considering new shocks and looking at Ted’s site since he seems to get nothing but excellent reviews. Most of the threads i’ve read talk about the rear shock. Any opinions on the addional advantages of also swapping the front? Thanks

Have Wilburs, front and rear, from Ted Porter. Manual preload since signif other won't get on the back, but the ride is luxurious, compared to stocks. Don't track so can't comment there but you will not regret the investment.

Unless you're financially constrained, get both front and rear...
