Trip Routing Software / Websites

What's the State Of The Art for trip routing these days? I'm planning to ride PDX->ABQ in June, and my usual routing procedures seem kind of dated. (Google Maps looks like it's restricting the number of waypoints you can add, and making it hard to plan on the computer then send to a phone. And I haven't had up-to-date DeLorme maps for 15 years.)

My fallback position is probably just to plan out a general direction & destination each day, but it would be nice to have an overall route in mind before I roll out.

I see some people using https://kurviger.de/en.

I haven't really used it so I can't speak for it much.

Wow, that's really easy to use. It picks roads that are a little on the slow side for me, but at least the ones that Google Street View has pictures of, they're not one-lane washboard dirt trails. (They're not very far into two-lane territory, though!)

Still, it's easier than trying to get Google Maps to cooperate.

Thanks!

Sometimes changing your vehicle to a bicycle
helps on google but yeah….. I have many
gripes for many years regarding google maps.
Mostly the all the white roads on an off-
white background surrounded by whitish gray
stuff.

On the topic of PC based mapping that can be exported to a mobile GPS device, Google maps doesn't work for me because it only allows ten waypoints per route. I build routes with dozens of waypoints in order to force the route onto the squiggliest of roads. GoogleMaps also requires elaborate histrionics to convert from its format to that of a mobile GPS app.

I have found a fantastic and free Windows PC based, installable application for creating routes such that I almost never use anything else. It is very configurable having many different base maps and routing algorithms from which to choose and you can save your routes in the native format of your mobile GPS app of choice for easy export. The PC based application is called ITNConverter. Give it a whirl.

I use CopilotGPS as my mobile Android based GPS app - which is a whole 'nother delightful story. And as mentioned, ITNConverter will save routes as Copilot native format .trp files which makes route sharing and interoperability a breeze.

Gaia GPS... so good that I am more than happy to pay for the full version. Works on your phone or can export to most GPS's.

Been trying out the Scenic app on the phone. Its made for motorcycles so the controls are glove friendly and it's pretty good. The fact you can change the map and road colors is awesome.
