Syrange clack sound on decelleration on new boxercup
I only have 300 miles on the bike so far.
I began to notice that when I accellerate I hear a ticking noise that sounds like vavle lash. Its not exceesive but there. Sometimes when riding close to home with a max rpm of 5K with most cruise at 3K I will let the bike slow down for a stop sign of stop light without using the clutch. Around 3K and down to 2K I hear a loud clacking sound which goes away as soon as I pull in the clutch. It doesn't do this all the time and is coming from the engine (below the tank). Any thoughts? dave |
Wear some earplugs :D

Cold or Warm? You haven't had your first service yet so it could be any number of things that haven't broken it yet ... valve seats, rods, cylinders. If after your 600 mile service, which should really be an 800 mile service anyway, even according to the dealers who tell you to ride it out a little longer :D, you still notice it, then you cold have some other problem. I'd wait until then for a full diagnosis.

I have about 650 miles on my Replika today... 600mi service is scheduled a week from tomorrow. I'll probably have 800-900 miles on it by then! Oh well....
I too noticed a fair bit of general valve train noise (particularly when the bike was warmed up) that is now slowly settling down and smoothing out. I read somwhere here that the factory fill is a lighter weight oil (to help break in) so that may contribute to a slightly noisier valvetrain as well... trev |

I’m with BMW Motorrad USA. I’m sorry to read about your problem with your BMW. If you would like our assistance, please phone us at ((800) 831-1117, Option 4.

Cool! Motorrad is lurking :D :D

hmmm...i am a bit of a skeptic...do you think they really sent a snooper out to check on us? i have to wonder. while some people hope they monitor these kinda sites, i have my doubts about the validity of their presence. could use information against us.

If its like mine, that sound turned in to PoPs when I change the exahust and removed the cat. After the 600mil service it went away. Kinda liked it. Oh well!

Has anyone suggested he check the oil level yet?

I like the idea. I think that BMW should sit in on this board and really listen about:
- The ****ty seat - The lack of cruise control - The ****ty suspension - The ****ty finish on the fairing fasteners - The butter soft rims - The ****ty fuel injection system - The underpowered motor - The overweight bike - The killer throtle pull ...should I go on? |
BMW please buy back my bike...I'll go away quietly :D
|
Carlos: is there anything about the bike youdo like? Just curious.
|
It's cool looking, makes interesting sounds, there aren't many around and it's put together like everything German.
|
I'd still take $15,400 from BMW if they want it back though :D

Not from personal experience with my bike, just anecdotal stuff and from seeing a couple of friends toast their front wheels on potholes. Other than that - I think you bought the wrong bike 'los! Cruise control? Buy an LT... *****ty seat and suspension and EFI? You must've bought a Ural by mistake :D Mine are fine by me. Underpowered motor? It has more poop than my V11 Sport - but is way down on my Blackbird and RSV - but you know what? It still has plenty. Killer throttle pull? Get thee to a gymnasium....might help with the seat complaint too. ;) Hell....and I'm old too - just turned 48 a few days ago. How about a nice R1200C? http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat3.gif |
You're still in your honeymoon with the S...you can't possibly be objective :D :D
|
LOL, blakebird.

So I can at least attest to the 2 Spark engine's lack of surging (on mine), and that the seat is fine for a couple of 900 mile days back to back! The Prep's Showa stuff is not bad....a bit harsh in back, but not bad. When it starts to age, I'll call my friendly neighborhood Bitubo man and make it mo' bettah. The Throttlemeister is ok for those 15 seconds "gotta get the hands off those tingly bars" moments. Some day the thing is smooth as silk....some days it tingles my hands to sleep on my way to work. I have electronic cruise control on the family thruxter (GL1800), and seldom use it. I am starting to hanker for an exhaust for the R1100S though... |
My '04 Boxer Cup has about 900 miles and the drivetrain
noise and gear lash are a killer. I had to ride my Yamaha YZF600R today to give my ears a rest. The numbness in my hands from the vibs on the Boxer gets to you also. With all of the above, I can live with it given how well the Boxer handles in the twisties. It smoked a 999 Ducati near the Rock Store in the tight ones. I think he stayed back thinking I would knock a cylinder off based on how far down the bike would go in the turns, or that may have been his excuse if I asked. Loren '04 Boxer Cup |
