bike hibernation

So, having just returned from the sand, next month I'm deploying for no less than 6 months maybe up to 12. What do I need to do to my bike prior to leaving? Really appreciate the help, got a lot to do and don't want to waste time looking iit up...Thx!

You could drop it off at my house and I'll take care of it!

Seriously, first, have a safe deployment and come back in one piece.

As for the bike, I'd remove the battery and either leave it on a tender or make sure somebody will charge it once in a while for you. I'd also fill the tank with gas and add some fuel stabilzer. Make sure you run the bike for a while to get the stabilizer throughout the system. I'd also wash and wax the bike if you have time. Change the oil and filter. Put it on the centerstand with carpet squares or the like under the tires so they are not in contact with the cement floor. Otherwise, that's about it. I don't think you have to go too nuts. Whole thing should take you less than a couple of hours.

Again, have a safe deployment.

i would agree with scott's suggestions, but would say to just put the battery on a tender, and leave it installed. i never pull them, even in CT (lives in a garage), so hot-'lanta area should be no problem whatsoever.

HAVE A SAFE DEPLOYMENT!!! My thoughts and prayers go with you....as a former Cav trooper, I know the feeling of having to get in 'the mindset'. I remember looking across the Fulda Gap at those Soviet and East German motorized rifle divisions just across the way and wondering how long I'd survive the coming frontal assault...(that's why we were called 'speed bumps'). Gary Owen!!

If the gear box and final drive juice is old I would change it out, but I'm VERY anal.

Be well, stay safe, come home to ride the land you're serving, and thank you!

Thanks, I appreciate the advice, probably won't worry about the gearbox though -- bike just doesn't have that many miles, at the rate the Army keeping me gone the bike will stay like new for years to come.

Don't leave till 7 Apr, so I'll tag a few more mile 'tween now and then
