BMW Roundel ticking noise

I have a fairly new Boxer Prep. w/1200 miles on it. It has developed a ticking noise and is pretty loud. At first, I thought the problem was the valve adjustment or the thin break-in oil they used at the factory. After checking the valve clearances and changed oil to 20-50 Castrol at 600 miles. The noise persisted and is getting louder.

I noticed another thing today, the noise went away after the clutch lever is pulled in. Can this ticking related to clutch assembly? Has anyone had this type of problems before?

You'll get a bit of clutch ticking or clanking if you release the clutch in neutral. It's pretty muffled by the bellhousing but there is an audible difference between clutch in and out when in neutral.

Other things that tick are:
cam chains before they tension up at startup
fuel injectors
loose valves

Ah........the famous tick. Been so way discussed since the first S units rolled out in 98. The tick you describe is a JD partly suggested..............T-Bodies out of sync will cause the huge butterflys to pulse on usually the right side.............tapping their brass skirt against the aluminum housing. Crank the bike in netural, get it to ticking. Reach down and to the inside of the T bodies. Hold the linkage plates firmly. Ticking stops. Best,
